1154 GMT: Horwill, who may not even feature in the deciding Test a week from now because of possible disciplinary action, says: "We get to go to Sydney next week for game three and a decider. It feels good now and we had the guts to get the win."
1152 GMT: Wallaby skipper James Horwill breaks down in tears as his side come from behind late on to beat the Lions 16-15 and keep the three-Test series alive going into the final match next week in Sydney. Leigh Halfpenny had a chance to snatch victory for the tourists after the full-time siren but his ambitious kick failed to carry from far out.
HALFPENNY MISSES PENALTY, WALLABIES WIN 16-15
79 mins: Nervous moments in the Wallaby defence. But they hold on. Heart-in-mouth moments for all Australia fans.
77 mins: Adam Ashley-Cooper goes over the line for the first try of the game after some neat build-up involving O'Connor. Lealiifano holds his nerve in the most pressurised of circumstances to pull the Wallabies ahead by a single point. Three minutes to go.
AUSTRALIA 16 LIONS 15 (Conversion Lealiifano)
73 mins: Perhaps that man is Israel Folau as he skips away and towards the Lions line. Lions keep the Wallabies at bay and there is a critical scrum metres from the tryline. It is Folau who comes away with it but he spills the ball as he runs straight into Conor Murray.
69 mins: Just over 10 minutes left for the Lions to close the game -- and the series -- out. Wallabies need something big, and soon. Is there an Aussie hero out there?
67 mins: Kurtley Beale is furious with himself, slapping his hands together after he spills the ball to give up a big chance. Sam Warburton, the young Lions skipper, is out the game with injury. Sean O'Brien is on.
64 mins: Halfpenny gets all his weight behind this one and it just carries over the bar to give the Lions some breathing space. Big big pressure now on the Wallabies with little over 15 minutes on the clock.
AUSTRALIA 9 LIONS 15 (Halfpenny penalty)
61 mins: George North has a problem here, he is down with a neck injury after a clumsy challenge. But he climbs off the turf and gets a massive reception from the Lions fans.
57 mins: Ben Youngs off for the Lions, Conor Murray on. Tom Youngs is also hauled off for the tourists, Richard Hibbard his replacement. Dan Cole also on. For the Wallabies, Rob Simmons is on.
55 mins: Lions are showing some real grit here to keep the increasingly frenetic Wallabies at bay. James O'Connor and Halfpenny exchange passes. Might this be the time for Lions coach Warren Gatland to make some changes? His forwards look ragged.
53 mins: Gasps become jeers -- this time from the Lions fans -- as O'Driscoll is penalised. Pressure on the Lions now, as this match see-saws one end to the other.
50 mins: Ten minutes gone in the second half and the Lions lead 12-9. But then Brian O'Driscoll sees his pass intercepted and the Aussies are on the charge. And then they give the ball away again. Gasps around the Etihad.
48 mins: The home side seem incapable of keeping the ball. That will be infuriating for Wallaby coach Robbie Deans, who could be out of a job if his men cannot find a way back in the remaining half hour or so.
46 mins: Lions penalised and it is Vunipola again at the scrum. Wallabies have hardly had the ball this half and they surrender it once more, the red shirts of the Lions swarming forward, before they too give up a decent chance.
42 mins: Good build-up from the Lions but poor handling from George North lets them down. We have seen almost nothing from the terrific Welsh winger North. So far.
41 mins: There is barely time for a breather and they are back at it again. The boot of Halfpenny -- who else? -- gets us under way once again for the second half.
1054 GMT: So it has been a story of penalties so far in Melbourne. Halfpenny has kicked four from five for the tourists and Christian Lealiifano is three from three. The Wallabies have given up nine penalties so far. If they keep going like that, with Halfpenny about, they will lose. Simple.
40 mins: Lions head into the break just in front after yet another penalty from the brilliant Leigh Halfpenny after Wallaby Ben Mowen was penalised for non-release. Lions 40 minutes from history.
HALF-TIME: AUSTRALIA 9 LIONS 12 (Halfpenny penalty)
37 mins: Whatever Halfpenny can do, Lealiifano can do better, as he steers one just between the posts to pull the Wallabies level once more. Not a try in sight here, but engaging stuff all the same. Three from three for Lealiifano.
AUSTRALIA 9 LIONS 9 (Lealiifano penalty)
32 mins: Lions pull in front after another Halfpenny penalty. Wallabies need to stop giving the Lions -- and especially Halfpenny -- these chances. Halfpenny is absolutely lethal with that boot.
AUSTRALIA 6 LIONS 9 (Halfpenny penalty)
30 mins: Poor lineout by the Lions gives the ball back to Australia. Then Beale makes a bit of a hash of his kick. Very scrappy stuff at the moment and the handbags are briefly out between the two sides.
28 mins: True and straight by Leigh Halfpenny to bring the tourists back level. He missed one earlier, but there was no doubt this time. Back level and there is nothing in this.
AUSTRALIA 6 LIONS 6 (Halfpenny penalty)
23 mins: Lealiifano nails another penalty after another infringement by Vunipola. If the hosts were targeting the English player Vunipola, it is working. He is suffering a miserable night so far.
AUSTRALIA 6 LIONS 3 (Lealiifano penalty)
20 mins: Now the Wallabies have the bit between their teeth. Lovely hands from Beale as the home side close again on the Lions' line. The Aussies have the momentum now. Lions skipper Sam Warburton has words with referee Joubert. Warburton seems concerned about several decisions against loosehead Mako Vunipola.
16 mins: Christian Lealiifano's first Test last week lasted not even one minute, but he is on the mark here with a penalty from close range. Didn't hit it very cleanly, but it was enough to bring the hosts back level at 3-3.
AUSTRALIA 3 LIONS 3 (Lealiifano penalty)
14 mins: Referee Craig Joubert has plenty to deal with here as one scrum goes to ground, then another does. Very bitty at the moment.
12 mins: Wallabies have a go now, venturing deep into the Lions' half for the first time in this match. Beale tries to find the lightning-quick Israel Folau with the boot but fails and it is a scrum. Missed opportunity for the home side.
10 mins: The usually immaculate Leigh Halfpenny makes no mistake from closer range this time. The Lions deserve that -- 85 percent of play in the Wallaby half so far.
AUSTRALIA 0 LIONS 3 (Halfpenny penalty)
7 mins: Lions in control here, and cries of "Lions! Lions!" boom around this Melbourne arena.
4 mins: Could not be closer for Leigh Halfpenny, whose penalty carried and was spot-on, until it hit right on the bar. Big let-off for the home side and so so close.
HALFPENNY MISSED PEN FOR LIONS
1 min: Lions do the early running and a panicked Kurtley Beale hoofs it into touch. Raucous noise at the Etihad.
1003 GMT: We are only moments away. The stage is set, hold on tight...This could be brutal.
1001 GMT: And they are quickly followed by the gold-shirted Wallabies. And they do look like they mean business. Remember, they need to win to keep this series alive. The Australian national anthem -- quite a jaunty number -- rings out. The players are arm-in-arm, at full voice.
0959 GMT: Here come the Lions... they are first out in front of a jam-packed Etihad.
0955 GMT: Interestingly, loud boos from the Lions fans when the name of Wallaby skipper James Horwill was read out. He could miss next week's final Test after the IRB appealed an apparent stamp by him last weekend. Adds extra spice to an already massive evening's entertainment here.
0950 GMT: Really intense work-out for the Lions, who can make history remember if they defeat the Wallabies here. Coach Warren Gatland, sporting a rather nifty suit, is out there on the turf, issuing last-minute instructions to his warriors. About 15 minutes till the big off.
0946 GMT: Quite a musical ding-dong going on at the Etihad, says AFP's Smith, with the Lions fans singing along to a booming rendition of the Oasis classic "Wonderwall" and the fired-up Aussies getting up for ACDC's "You Shook Me All Night Long".
0943 GMT: In a strange way, recent history is with the Wallabies: on the last two Lions tours to Australia, in 1989 and 2001, the side that has won the first Test has gone on to lose the series. Lions though are slight favourites to buck that recent trend.
0941 GMT: As for the home side -- who of course must win to keep the series alive -- under-pressure coach Robbie Deans has made two changes including a starting place for Beale. Can he make up for last week's last-minute failure?
0938 GMT: A nerve-tingling roar from those Lions fans goes up as Sam Warburton leads his men out first for their warm-up. Coach Warren Gatland has showed his hand by making five changes from last week's narrow victory, only two of them enforced.
0935 GMT: This potentially decisive second of three Wallabies-Lions Tests will take place under a roof at the Etihad, says Smith, who reports plenty of Lions fans in the stadium, many of them decked out in the red of their side.
0931 GMT: The match is set for 8:05 pm (1005 GMT) at the impressive 50,000-capacity dome that is the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne. The atmosphere is building nicely, says AFP reporter Robert Smith, who is primed pitch-side.
WELCOME TO AFP?s Live Report on the second Test between Australia and the British and Irish Lions.
The Lions are poised to secure their first series in 16 years while the Wallabies have their backs to the wall and must win in Melbourne.
Warren Gatland's Lions go in with the edge after clinging on to a 23-21 victory in last week's Brisbane Test when Kurtley Beale missed a kickable penalty in the final minute.
The Lions last won a series in South Africa in 1997 and the chief coach has shaken up a winning side in a bid to wrap up the series ahead of the July 6 final Test in Sydney.
