There is only one Paramount Prize Fighting event each year and each year there is only one main event on it. This year’s owners of that honor are two men as unique as the card itself. Jeremy Kimball (7-3), one of the biggest names currently calling Colorado home will face UFC veteran Drew McFedries (10-6) in the premier fight of 2013.
McFedries, out of Hit Squad, hasn’t fought in over a year, yet he’s ready for what is sure to be a thrilling finale to the Paramount card on January 25.
“I think I always have something to prove. There are always skills or tools that I want to try out. I want to be able to say that I used my techniques and training to win. I want to separate myself from other athletes,” McFedries said.
Kimball, out of Team Wildman and Team Shingitai, has something to prove on every card as well, but one thing he’s proven is that he knows how to win at The Paramount. Kimball is one of only two fighters (Jason Lee) that will have fought on all three Paramount Prize Fighting cards and the only one to have never lost there.
“I couldn’t wait to be back on this card,” Kimball said, “It’s such an honor to be the main event.”
The other half of that main event, McFedries, has seen the top MMA has to offer and many may view his accepting a fight with a relatively new Kimball as a dangerous position to put himself in.
McFedries disagrees.
“I don’t feel that I’m putting myself in any position. In MMA I never had any goals other than to compete against other athletes at the highest level I can,” McFedries said, “I am a competitor. It doesn’t matter where I go to compete. I’m going to give my best and try to win.”
